Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea) is also known as the Blue Waterlily or the Egyptian lotus and is a waterplant that grows on the sides of lakes and rivers. Blue and white lotuses were the most important ritual plants in ancient Egypt.
The plant contains the psychoactive alkaloid aporphine. The effects are both sedative and euphoric and become mildly hallucinogenic at higher doses. It is also used as a sexual stimulant and potency enhancer.
The dried herbs can be smoked for a mild sedative effect or consumed as a tea.
